400,000 miles on a Dodge Sprinter.
The doors don’t open from the inside, so you have to roll the windows down and snake your arm around to the exterior door handle.
Seats? Practically destroyed. In fact, the passenger seat belt receptacle straight up snapped off.
Key? Also broken. But it broke off inside the ignition, so the key stub can still start the van.
Interior lights? LED strip jankily wired to the map lights. I accidentally snapped the light strip in half a few weeks ago, getting a bit of a shock in the process.
Dashboard? Lit up like a Christmas tree.
Engine is still running strong though. Damn thing pulls like a freight train and has no issue spinning the tires around each and every corner. And the backup mirrors are great, significantly better than what is offered in current Mercedes Sprinters.
Scooter is going in for some work on Wednesday, fingers crossed it's cheap and straightforward!

Rust?

Why is that still in the fleet if it's that bad? You'd think they'd want to keep up on maintenance the best they could

Demand for trucks is absolutely insane. Every single contractor I know needs multiple to keep up with delivery volume, which has resulted in incredibly long wait times to get a new vehicle . Before Covid-19 craziness, this truck was parked outside and just used to store tools, but now... Managers tend to use it to free up the good trucks for our drivers.

Old, clapped out work vans are the best. We have an old Renault Kangoo with 280.000km at work which won't die and a VW Transporter with just 68hp...

yer shittin’ me. I was about to ask whether it was brownish-rust colored, or reddish rust colored.

That dash design reminds me of an early 2000s Benz S Class lol

Wow congratulations, all the old sprinters around here are covered in rust

That set of lights probably means that it has a bad wheel-speed sensor.
I once had a Dodge that pulled like a freight train. It took 15 minutes to get up to speed, it took half a mile to stop and it didn’t do well on sharp turns.

Same here. Heck, even some of the newer ones are, already.

Not surprising when you consider his climate. I’ve seen a few around with some small visible rust, presumably from out of state, but otherwise these are only now starting to be taken off the roads.

I knew a guy in high school who had to do the roll down window trick every time with his 94 wrangler. It had manual windows.

Despite all of it's flaws, I love the thing

This does too, thankfully. Just annoying when it's pouring out lol

Ha. I suppose my comparison wasn’t *literal*
One thing I’ve also noticed about the current Gen Mercedes Sprinters is traction is abysmal. Go around any corner and you have to make an effort to avoid wheels pin. If ever there was a vehicle that needed an LSD...

Fleet management is already my personal hell, and I can’t even fathom how much worse it would be in an area where rust was a concern...

Most of the Seattle area avoids salt, so rust is rarely an issue

Woah, don’t be coming at the S. I actually like the digital dash in those S classes , it’s pretty neat when it’s working still
